The House of Commons is the main source of politics in the United kingdom, the members of the House of Commons are chosen by members of the public that are aged over eighteen years, people that are not allowed to vote at the elections are members of the House of Lords mental health patients are also exempt and also prisoners are disallowed from voting. You can also be banned from being elected to the House of Commons, people such as peers, and certain members of the church, people who have had a sentence over one year on their criminal record and people who are declared bankrupt may also not stand for election.
Each member that enters the House of Commons will have been voted in by their respective constituency, every member will probably represent somewhere in the region of seventy thousand people. There is of course four different boundaries set out in the constitution and they are the four home nations, their direction is to make any existing contituency equal. Each constituency is reviewed about once a decade and if there has been a growth or decline in population in any of them then changes will be recommended and carried out.
It is possible for ex-pats to vote in the elections for anything up to twenty years after leaving the country. You may also vote if you are temporarily out of the country doing military service.
Each state of Parliament lasts for five years unless of course it is dissolved, this has happened before and there are many underlying factors that can bring about dissolution and is brought about by the head of state at the time. Dissolution comes about if the Prime Minister believes there is a major issue that they believe should be presented to the voting public, also it may happen if the public start strongly disagreeing with the party in power at that time.
Inside the House Of Commons the members of the party that has gained the major share of votes will be seated on one side of the house across from the party thah in effect has come second. Both sides places it main leaders on the front bench of the house. The Prime Minister and the cabinet sit in the front row as do the shadow cabinet.
