Below we will give you details of the current state of the political parties in the United Kingdom as they stood after the general election in May of 2005.
- Labour party held three hundred and fifty four seats which was a loss of fifty eight to the previous election.
- The conservative party won a total of one hundred and ninety five which meant they had gained twenty nine seats.
- The liberal democrats increased their seats from fifty two seats to sixty one.
- The democratic unionists increased their seats by four moving up to nine seats.
- Sinn Fein gained one more seat, they now have five representatives, though they have not taken up their seats in the house yet.
- The Social Democrats kept the three seats that they had previously won.
- The independent party now has two seats which in essence is a one hundred percent rise.
- The ulster unionist lost five seats and are left with only one seat left in the house of commons
